Cord and Berg's Innovative Approach to Online Shopping Experience

When Cord and Berg set out to design an ecommerce website for Sydney Ugg, they had a clear goal in mind: to create a modern, enjoyable, and easy shopping experience that would position the brand as an industry leader. They achieved this by incorporating modern fonts, icons, colors, and premium product photography, along with references to the Sydney lifestyle, animated features, and interactive functions. The result was a sleek and representative platform of a switched-on, authentic Sydney company.

The Sydney Ugg Co. website was designed to appeal to a premium local market and international tourists seeking authentic Australian Ugg Boots. In an oversaturated market filled with counterfeit products, Cord and Berg focused on creating a modern design and streamlining the shopping experience. They introduced a custom one-page checkout and features such as switching between categories from within the product page, filtering search results, creating a profile, and easily understanding the height difference between products - a distinguishing and often difficult feature to determine when purchasing new boots.

The website, built using the Laravel platform, is a responsive design that automatically resizes across all browsers and devices. The design team focused on browsers such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera, Microsoft 11 & Edge, iOS, and Android, considering the client's audience and the advanced JavaScript they used. The distinguishing feature of the Sydney Ugg website is the one-page checkout, which uses overlays to prevent the process from being overwhelming. The checkout is validated at each step for efficiency, and users can create a profile to track their order, rate the products they have purchased, and save their billing details to speed up the checkout process.

One of the challenges the design team faced was the international trademarking law around using the word 'ugg'. To overcome this, they designed a partner logo called 'Sydney Boot Co.' and explained that when international shipping methods are selected, the product will be branded using the partner logo. This information is clearly and concisely communicated on both the 'about' page and during the checkout process.

The Sydney Ugg website is designed to appeal to a premium local market and international tourists looking for authentic Australian Uggs. To give Sydney Ugg a competitive edge in an oversaturated market, Cord & Berg focused on enhancing usability and brand loyalty by merging carefully selected, innovative features and bold, modern design to streamline the purchasing process and ultimately provide an easy, intuitive, and enjoyable experience, time and time again.

The design's exceptional innovation and professionalism earned it the Platinum A' Design Award in 2017. This award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that contribute to societal wellbeing, advance the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology, and make the world a better place.
